Davidson GOP Sees Record Convention Turnout as Jessup is Re-Elected as Chairman

(LEXINGTON, NC)-This past weekend, the Davidson County Republican Party held its 2023 convention and people turned out in droves to take an active approach to politics in the county. Held at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville on Saturday, if one were to arrive at the convention site during registration, they would have been greeted with a line that stretched well into the parking lot. A record of 293 Republicans were in attendance at this year's convention, all ready to express their concern for the future of the Davidson GOP. After registration and the seating of delegates, Chairman of the Convention Mark Delk called the proceedings to order.

To begin the convention, current Davidson GOP Chairman Christopher Jessup inducted 4 honorees into the Davidson County Republican Party Hall of Fame including Commissioner Fred McClure, Representative Sam Watford and Representative Larry Potts. Former Senator Stan Bingham was honored and inducted posthumously. "It is important to honor not only the hard work of those representing conservatives in our county, but also the legacy each of them have established in our community and county as a whole, " said Chairman Jessup.

Then, the convention moved on to organizing and electing precinct officers. Each of the 43 precincts in Davidson County were well represented including several that exceeded the cap for delegates. This year's convention was an integral one as not only were officers elected in each of the precincts in Davidson County, but executive leadership was also voted on by those in attendance. Ultimately, Christopher Jessup and his slate won re-election by a wide margin over former Davidson GOP Chairwoman Kelly Gallimore with a vote total of 184 to 109. With a proven track record, Chairman Jessup hopes to continue to strive for success in Davidson County, "Now is the time for unity within our party and to leave the past behind us. With the upcoming election cycle, we have to be ever vigilant, lock arms with our fellow conservatives and overcome the challenges ahead including those brought forth by the Democrats."

With his re-elected team including Vice-Chair and Brand Manager John Spillman, Secretary Felicia Spillman, Treasurer Venessa Link and an Executive Committee consisting of April Valerio, Terry Ellington, Robbie Beasley, Brandon Tucker, Tony Taylor, Kristy Frazier and Vince Cvijanovic, Chairman Jessup looks forward to working hard for the citizens of Davidson County after another successful convention.
